THE CHALLENGE:
Root rot in peas and lentils is caused by a complex of diseases that affect the below-ground portion of the developing plant, leading to poor performing pulse crops. The organisms that cause the disease are seed or soil-borne and can infect the plant at any stage. Unfortunately once root rot has set in, there is nothing that can be done. An accurate diagnosis of root rot aids future crop management decisions. Results may reveal trends among varieties, crop rotations, and management practices that affect the soil or other inputs and stresses.
Deep and machine learning algorithms are used to distinguish between healthy and diseased leaves and identify different diseases such as rust, scab, etc., from collected satellite images.
THE SOLUTION:
Axiom Applied Analytics has developed a solution, XACT Agriculture, which uses machine learning that could help farmers better identify and manage diseases such as root rot quickly. In this example, satellite spectral data was analyzed using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to produce these images. Once the model was trained to identify root rot, it was deployed and the diseased crops became evident.
Axiom XACT Agriculture can scale up and down as required and use the higher resolution to ground truth and increase the resolution of airborne multispectral and satellite data and analysis. Our tool helps us see the story of the land in different ways to support decision-making and land management practices.
The early detection of diseases in plants through artificial intelligence techniques has been a very important technological advance for agriculture since, through machine learning and optimization algorithms, it has been possible to increase the yield of various crops. Axiom XACT Agriculture utilizes AI (Artificial Intelligence), deep & machine learning, along with proprietary algorithms that are trained in Western Canadian soil, nutrient, and vegetation analysis…. and it is only getting more powerful every day.
Put XACT Agriculture to work for you, your land, and our province. We strive to give our local producers the competitive advantage they need.
